    PSR1000/PSR2000/TYROS and Karaoke (.kar) Files

Karaoke (.kar) files are a popular form of MIDI files which contain Lyrics. (Standard MIDI Files can contain Lyrics as well.) There are many Karaoke files on the internet, which can be easily identified because they have a .kar extension at the end of the title, instead of the .mid extension which Standard MIDI Files have. The PSR1000/PSR2000/TYROS can play .kar files, as well as .mid files with or without Lyrics.

    TYROS
Using AI (Artificial Intelligence) Fingered Mode on a PSR1000/PSR2000/TYROS

AI (Artificial Intelligence) Fingered mode is explained in the Owner's Manual as follows: 'This mode is basically the same as FINGERED, with the exception that less than 3 notes can be played to indicate the chords (based on previously played chord, etc.)' In FINGERED mode, playing one or two notes in the left hand will not change the chord. The user must play three notes or more to change chords. However, in 'AI FINGERED' mode, playing one note will create an octave (1+ 8), playing 2 notes will create a chord based on the previous chord, and playing three notes or more will work the same as 'FINGERED' mode. Here are some musical EXAMPLEs of how AI FINGERED mode works. If the user is playing a song on a keyboard without the AI FINGERED mode, with different chords going down in a progression, there are a couple of ways to play this; one way would NOT follow the bass line down (FINGERED), and the other WOULD (ON BASS).

EXAMPLE: With AI FINGERED mode, the user can create chords by the notes that are chosen. In of the following EXAMPLEs, the first note is always the lower note. The following progression in AI FINGERED mode will produce a descending bass line like 'ON BASS' mode:

    NOTES
    CHORD
    Bb-D-F
    Bb
    A-F
    F/A
    Ab-F
    F/Ab
    G-Eb
    Eb/G
    Gb-Eb
    Ebm/Gb

In the above case, the user can go back and forth between using and not using the ON BASS feature by playing two or three notes to form a chord.

EXAMPLE: To get a 'Pedal' Bass (Bass note stays the same), the user could play the following:

    NOTES
    CHORD
    F-A-C
    F
    F-B
    Bb/F

SUMMARY: Single Note - If a single note is played, the root and octave are produced.

    EXAMPLE:

    NOTES
    CHORD
    F
    F1+8

TWO NOTES: If two notes are played (depending on the interval), the following chords are produced.

    EXAMPLE:

    NOTES
    CHORD
    F-Gb
    GbM7/F
    F-G
    G/F
    F-Ab
    Fm
    F-A
    F
    F-Bb
    Bb/F
    F-B
    F b5
    F-C
    F1+5
    F-Db
    Db/F
    F-D
    Dm/F
    F-Eb
    F7
    F-E
    FM7

Three or More Notes: If three or more notes are played, a 'normal' chord will be produced:

    EXAMPLE:

    NOTES
    CHORD
    F-A-C
    F

In the two-note example above, if the user plays in a sharp key instead of a flat key, these chords will display in the screen of the keyboard as sharp chords. For example GbM7/F would be displayed as F#M7/F.
